No Picture Yet

My friend is still at the Edmond quilt show so I haven't seen the picture yet of the quilt with the blue ribbon, but I heard a rumor this morning at the quilt shop that there were 2 blue ribbons.  Can't wait for
Sandra to call.  I'm sure she will have to come over and down load the pix to my computer because she never can remember how to email them.  Will post as soon as I get a photo.

I finished the Minkee quilt this morning and then delivered it where it will hang at Quilters Corner.  Will start another one in the morning.  I still have at least 12 or 13 to do.

Happy quilting.

Just resting

I have a very wise friend who said I was doing too much and should rest.  So today I rested and I'm feeling better.  Back to quilting tomorrow.
There is a quilt show in Edmond today and I heard that one of the quilts I quilted got a blue ribbon.  I'm not going to go, so one of my friends is going to take pictures.

Minkee quilt

Minkee is soooo soft you just want to lay your arms on it while your quilting for a very sensual experience while you're  quilting.  You might as well have as much fun quilting as you possibly can.  I mean I'm already doing the thing in the world the I absolutely love doing, so make it better by basking in the softness of minkee!  How do they make if so soft?  It's probably made out of old tires or something. ha.  If you want to see this quilt when it is done, it will be hanging at Quilters Corner in Midwest City in Holiday Square Shopping Center.
I'll baste a couple more quilts today and then go swimming.  I'm almost finished listening to "Sizzling Sixteen"  by Janet Evanovich.  Hilarious stuff.

Happy quilting.

Finished the Kaffe Fassett

Finished the Kaffe Fassett quilt this am and will start a minkee applique quilt later today.  I also finished     "The Millennium Trilogy" by Steig Larrson, a Swedish author.  The books include "The girl with the Dragon Tattoo",  The Girl who Played with Fire", and "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest".  These books were just absolutely spellbinding.  How? you ask can she quilt all these quilts AND read all these books.  I've been holding out on you.   Quilting takes a long time and is a very solitary activity.  Sooooo I read while I quilt.  The Oklahoma Metropolitan Library System has   come into the 21st century with books to download straight to your mp3 play or ipod.  (or kindle, or ipad)  for free.  Multitasking.  I get to do two things I really love at the same time.

Actually I did quilt yesterday

I felt pretty good after my infusion yesterday so I quilted some yesterday and again this morning before I started getting infused again.  This quilt I Kaffe Fassett fabric and starts in the middle with a rectangle and just has a series of borders around it.  I really like the way it look.  Some of the quilts made out of the "modern" fabrics I don't like because they are too busy, but this one has some quieter fabrics that give your eyes a place to rest.  I'll post a picture of the back if I can get it on here.

I'm getting sleepy better say Happy quilting.

Happy quilting to all of you.

Sleepy Day

Haven't done much but take naps today.  Went swimming this morning and got my sewing machine ready to start the next quilt but then got sleepy and slept all afternoon, even through the thunder storm. Guess I'll just give it up and rest today, drink a lot of water and get ready for my infusion tomorrow.

Another Quilt Out, Another Quilt In

OK, so you can't make heads of tails out of it but if you click on it to make is bigger i think you can see the big double flower.  There is also a butterfly and smaller flowers in the meander. but those are not visible in the  picture.  I got another quilt in yesterday from a young woman making quilts for her soon to be nieces and nephews when she marries next summer.  Love to see the art of quilting continuing on into the next generation.  It seems unbelievable to think that quilting could actually be lost along the way but the young people don't seem to be all that interested in sewing.  To attached to facebook etc.  Oh,  I could go on about that, but I won't.

I'm really starting to poop out but I've lasted really well this time.  I get my infusion on Monday and Tuesday.  Those of you who Know me know what I'm talking about.  (I talk like I have zillions of folks out there clambering out there reading my every day--have you looked at my followers list all 2 of you?)  I have Myasthenia Gravis which is and auto immune disease that makes my brain not communicate with my muscles correctly.  I get infusions of Intravenous Immune Globulin every 6 weeks.  It's a home infusion, take 2 days and sometimes causes a 2 - 4 day headache.

I'm going to the grocery store here in a little while before it gets too hot and then quilt a little while this morning.

Hey, to day is the last day of a sale at Target on Western digital external hard drive 320 Gig for $47!  I bought one several months ago for $79.

I bought a new book yesterday--"Adaptable Quilting Designs" by Sue Patten.  It's always fun to get a new quilting book.  looking at the designs and ideas another quilter has come up with.  Seeing the Precision they can stitch the designs, how they decide to place them in the different shapes of the quilt.  How they break away from the regimented symmetry that we all are so attracted to and feel soooo afraid venture away from.  I often have trouble breaking away from rigid symmetry and find that when I relax I create surprises that are often more pleasing and more artistic than I ever thought I was capable of!   When I was creating the sample for my Fun with Feathers class I intended to make feather swags that were symmetrical on either side of the sample and show a neat trick on getting the symmetry.  After I did the first side, I realized that I over shot the center so it ended asymmetrical and really looked cool so I just left it that way.

Oh, I digress.  I did get to try out a new design from the book yesterday and am looking forward to getting back to it today.

Some Flowers

Just noticed how pretty my little pink flowers are this morning.  I think they are dwarf zinnias, but I'm not sure.  Last year they dug up the plants in front of the pool before they were done, (I thought) so I replanted them under my living room window.  They immediately died, but I let them stay there until I was sure they went to seed and this summer I have little pink flowers.  I think I'll try taking a picture when the sun is not so bright on them.

I started a new quilt this morning that is a half log cabin I think and I'm putting   a flower and butterfly meander on it.  Swimming later.  Before you get all excited about me being a wonderful swimmer,  I'm not.  I just tread water.  I get panicked when I try to swim and flail around.  I have my own built in floaties so it really doesn't take much effort to stay afloat but I do actually get a little bit of exercise.

Finished the blue quilt this morning and then went swimming with my friends.  The water was very warm and felt wonderful.  Nothing like loosening up the old muscles after quilting for a few hour.

I went to Bernina yesterday but it was Embroidery club instead of software club--which is next month.  I did get a pin tuck foot for a class I'm taking next week and Embroidery club was fun.  In all the years I have owned Berninas, it was the first time I attended one of the clubs.  I'm a little slow.

I basted 2 more quilt yesterday at Sew and Go so, on to the next quilt tomorrow.

Blue Quilt

Didn't post yesterday because I had that HUGE Intro to free motion quilting class,  and I was really tired when I got home and just couldn't think.
Okay, enough excuses.
Even though the class was really big it was fun, and I think most everybody will become quilters.  It's always fun to give people the tools to start quilting their own quilts.

I'm about halfway done on the next quilt. (I may be getting better at pictures--probably just got lucky this morning. ha!).  Will finish tomorrow or Thursday.  Today I have Sew and Go with the Mid-Del Stitchin' Sisters Quilt Guild at the church and will baste a couple of quilts and work on a quilt I'm making for my brothers 60th birthday which is over a year away.  I have to work that far ahead on a quilt for my self because I have to just work on my stuff at Sew and Go's.  Not that I'm complaining.  Oh, by the way--I got in 2 more quilts yesterday.

Happy quilting.

It's Done

Finally the Bargello quilt is done!!  It is a beautiful quilt and Christie (the maker) loved it.  You can click on the picture and get a close up to see the quilting a little better.  I finished it yesterday morning before my Intro to free motion quilting class and she picked it up during the class.

This morning I put the binding on the T shirt quilt and started another  quilt before I went to the grocery store about noon.  When I got home, our thermometer said 107.  Today is supposed to be the hottest day so far.  I'd have to agree.

Tomorrow I teach again and have 10 students.  That's a lot for my Intro the free motion quilting class.

Blue Ribbon

Ok, so I can't take a picture so good.  But the quilt with my quilting got a blue ribbon!!  My first one.  I had a hard time taking pictures of all the quilts because the lighting was weird.  I did get a few good ones though.   The next photo is  a close up of a SW west quilt.

I uploaded another pix of the SW quilt but it didn't show up.  I need to get to work so I have to close  for now.  I'm teaching Intro to Free Motion Quilting today and need to get things ready for my class and try to get a little more quilting on the bargello.

Today's the Day

Today's the day of the Norman quilt show.  I can't remember how many quilts I quilted for this event but I worked non-stop for about 2 months to get them finished in time.  I'll be taking pictures of them hanging and posting them here so you can see them at their best.

I'm STILL working on the bargello but I'm closer to being done.  One more run of feathers around the other side and I'm done.  Unfortunately, I have the show today, and Intro to Machine Quilting on Sat and Monday so not a lot of time.  Hopefully I'll  be able to squeeze it in before I go each day.

I started a new medicine yesterday for my ocular migraines.  They've been getting increasingly worse and more frequent and I'm getting headaches with them now.  The med is Topamax and I took the first dose last night.  The good news is one of the side effects is weight loss--the bad news is after I took it last night I had the dry heaves.  Oh well, if it keeps me from having so many dizzy spells I'll be happy (except when I'm trying to throw up).

Miss Millie

I think I finished the "unquilting"  of the barjello yesterday.  I'll spread it out and make sure first thing and then start quilting again.  I quilted Miss Millie yesterday afternoon so I could deliver it to the pattern maker, (Sunflower Fields Pattern Co), last night at our Mid-Del Stitchin' Sisters Quilt Guild meeting.  She loved it.

Back to quilting--(the unquilting of the bargello doesn't happen very often, thank goodness!  but it does happen every so often.)

New Thread

Remember the new thread I was waiting for last week? Well, that's what you see in this picture.  It's not the thread's fault.  I got several puckers in the border of feathers I put on half the quilt yesterday.  I quilted about 2 hours yesterday and have spent more than 8 hours today taking it out.  Oh, I'm not done yet.  I hope I can finish "unquilting" tonight so I can stare fresh tomorrow,

Back to Quilting

Between Dotors appointments, errands and fiddling

with this blog to get it fixed, I didn't quilt hardly at all yesterday or Thursday.  But I'm back after it
today.  Here is a picture of one section of the T-shirt quilt.  The quilting really doesn't show up very well, but I'm doing an all over meander with loops, Hearts (because EMS people really give from the heart) and stars (because they are stars to the folks they help).

Got the thread in the mail today so I can get back on the bargello heart and get that one finished.  Ill get a good picture of that one before it goes to live somewhere else.  Acually it will be shown at the Oklahoma State Fair in OKC during Sept.

Yesterday I basted 2 more quilts so I'm set for a few days.

Technology makes me feel stupid

Well I got help from a forum to solve the problem of the text (I had selected white for the text color--duh!) As I write this out, it's turning into a foreign (to me) language. I'm going to post anyway, just in case "thru the magic of television" everything turns out to be the way it is supposed to be.
I had to stop quilting on the Heart Bargello quilt because I ran out of thread, but I started a T-shirt quilt yesterday and got 2 more basted. That should keep me busy til the thread comes in and I can finish the bargello.
We had terrible rains twice this week causing flooding in OKC bet we remained high and dry, once again. Supposed to rain more today!

Yikes

What happened to my blog??  I was trying to make it look better last night with a better background and different header and all my wonderful writing went away!  Oh well, that's what happens in this age of technology,  things just disappear.  I've lost a lot of files and pictures over the years.  This loss is insignificant in comparison.
I guess I'll go back to each day and re enter the text to explain the pictures.

Better get back to work!

Another Day

This is one of the quilts that I quilted on Tues at the Mid-Del Stitchin' Sister Quilt Guild's charity sew and Go. A friend of mine who designs quilts donated the top . I love what she can do with fabric.

When I put my shelves up yesterday I was surprised by the number of "to be quilted" quilts I really had. Getting them all put in the same place makes a big difference in keeping up with them. Speaking of which, I'll be basting some today at the church with a friend, got to get some of these out. The bargello I showed a few days ago is progressing nicely, but I ran out of thread and I will have to wait to continue until I get my order from Connecting threads.

Ta dah!!

Good Morning!! Just finished putting up shelves to hold all the quiltsd I do for customers. I'm not a great photographer, but you can see 14 of the 18 quilts I have to do right now on 4 of the 5 shelves I put up. Whew!
I also vacuumed and am getting ready to go get in the pool when it opens at 10. Better get my suit on. No quilting for me this morning.
MA
Back from the pool. I'm cooled off and refreshed. We had a hell of a rain yesterday evening. The water was running through our breezeway, but didn't come in the door. The maintainance guy put some sand bags down today 'cause it's expected to rain again this eveing like last night and everything is totally saturated so maybe that will keep us dry.

Monday, July 5, 2010

Well, I spent the morning quilting and ripping and quilting again. I discovered that there was a slight difference between the right and left sides of the bargello heart so I had to reconfigure where my stitching on the feathers would go. Got it finished and it looks really good.

I spent yesterday evening trying to familiarize myself with some new embroidery software. It's really amazing what this will do and I have a better idea how to proceed. Still quite complicated to me but I have some project ideas to work on so off I go to try and design the project I saw on the video last night.

Mary Ann
I've been following my friends blog (sunflowerfieldspatternco.blogspot.com) and it looked like so much fun that Idecided to do the same.

I have been quilting on a heart bargello quilt for 2 days now and have half of the bargello part of the quilt completed. I basted the quilt about amonth ago and finally started quilting it on Sat. I think I was a little scared of it because it is such a beautiful quilt and the owner will be entering it the Ok state Fair next month. (I didn't want to mess it up), This picture shows the right side of the upper part of the heart. It's a large quilt so I won't be able to post the whole thing, just pieces. Hope you enjoy the daily postings of what I'm quilting today.
Better go quilt some more.
